OUR SPECIALTIES

ORTHOPEDICS

Orthopedic conditions include any pain or injury that involves the muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints, bones, and nerves throughout the body. The key to effective rehabilitation is a thorough evaluation that will be performed in order to differentially diagnose the painful area, identify contributing factors that may have led or predisposed an individual to a specific injury, as well as to identify different factors that may be limiting recovery. Once an appropriate evaluation is performed, a patient-specific treatment plan will be developed in order to address both the impairments and individually identified factors, so that the patient’s goals can be achieved.  Treatment plans can include various interventions including hands-on manual techniques, therapeutic exercises, modalities (ice, heat, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, laser), taping techniques, neuromuscular re-education, biomechanical retraining, postural training, ergonomic education, and education on self management approaches. At Responsive PT, we pride ourselves on providing true one-on-one physical therapy so that each patient is receiving highly skilled care on each visit. There will be no cookie cutter approach, nor will a patient be passed around to various unlicensed employees. Continuity and skill are maintained throughout the entirety of your care. Common Orthopedic conditions treated but not limited to: Low back pain Neck pain Sciatica Osteoarthritis Fractures Muscle/Ligament Strains/Sprains Hip Bursitis Rotator cuff injuries Shoulder pain Knee pain

SPORTS INJURIES

Sports injuries are essentially orthopedic injuries that are sustained during athletics. There are different factors to take into account when dealing with sports-related injuries. It is important to understand the sport-specific requirements of each athlete. A full orthopedic examination is performed in order to diagnose the specific injury and to identify any related impairments. Biomechanics, range of motion, flexibility, strength, and stability are all components that need to be assessed in relation to the patient’s injury. When dealing with sports injuries, the assessment must be made with a proper understanding of what the athlete requires in order to safely and effectively perform his/her respective sport. As the patient progresses through the initial stages of recovery, appropriate sport-specific rehabilitation exercises will be implemented. Functional tests will be performed to help determine a safe return to sport.

VERTIGO

Vestibular conditions lead to a sensation of dizziness or imbalance. Patients who experience these sensations will undergo a thorough evaluation, in order to identify the potential cause of their symptoms, so that an appropriate and effective treatment plan can be implemented.  One of the most common causes of vertigo is BPPV, or Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo.  Patients with BPPV need to be properly evaluated so that the specific location of dysfunction can be determined and the appropriate corrective maneuver can be performed. When done properly, canalith repositioning maneuvers for the treatment of BPPV have a very high rate of effectiveness. Responsive Physical Therapy has been a longstanding provider in treating vestibular conditions. With advanced trained and certified clinicians, we are able to provide frontline support to help diagnose and treat these conditions that may be contributing to your sense of dizziness or imbalance.

BALANCE

Balance issues make it difficult for people to maintain stable posture and remain upright whether standing, walking, or even sitting. Balance problems are more common in older individuals, and therefore, the most common reason they seek medical attention. Falls can occur if balance issues are not addressed. Balance can be improved by seeking assistance from a licensed physical therapist. Your physical therapist will perform baseline balance testing and create treatment regimens tailored to the level of each patient, with strategic progressions and challenges made throughout subsequent visits in order to help maximize each individual’s capability. Balance programs also include components of physical activity to help patients improve their strength, endurance, stability, and movement.
